Satellite Applications for Societal Benefit Working Group (SAWG) in the APRSAF-30 meeting

On 26-27 November 2024, Dr. Sumanya Ngandee, the AFSIS Manager, participated in the 30th session of the Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF-30), held in Perth, Australia. This event was co-organized by the Australian Space Agency (ASA), the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan, and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). The forum's focus was to bring together stakeholders from various space agencies in the Asia-Pacific region to address pressing regional issues through space-based solutions.

Completion and Handover Ceremony for the project “Establishing Real-Time AFSIS and Development of Human Resources” in Indonesia

On November 12, 2024, Dr. Sumanya Nagdee, AFSIS Manager, participated in the Completion and Handover Ceremony for the project "Establishing Real-Time ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) and Development of Human Resources 3rd Phase – Pilot Project on Strategic Crop Forecasting System for Food Security in Indonesia." The event, which took place in Jakarta, Indonesia, was supported by the Government of the Republic of Korea and This meeting was chaired by Ms. Intan Rahayu, Director of the Center of Agricultural Data and System Information (CADIS) under Indonesia's Ministry of Agriculture, and Mr. An Jaerok, Vice President of EPIS from Republic of Korea, along with representatives from various sectors.

Online Meeting between AFSIS Secretariat EPIS and KRC, Republic of Korea

On 11 September 2024, the AFSIS Secretariat participated in a meeting between the Korea Agency of Education, Promotion and Information Service in Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (EPIS) and the Korea Rural Community Corporation Global Project Office (KRC) from the Republic of Korea. The meeting aims to provide information on upcoming activities for 2025, with support from the Republic of Korea. The new project assigned to KRC by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs Republic of Korea (MAFRA) involves the implementation of the National Agri-Food Information System (NAIS), which is scheduled to take place in Cambodia from 2025 to 2026.

Flooding and Landslides in Regions X, XI, and CARAGA, Philippines 02 February 2024

On February 2, 2024, the island of Mindanao in the Philippines felt the impact of the Northeast Monsoon and the Trough of the Low-Pressure Area (LPA), as disclosed by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). The persistent trough of the Low-Pressure Area led to moderate to heavy rainfall, resulting in flooding and landslides across multiple areas in the region.

Kanlaon Volcanic Activity, Philippines on 08 June 2024

On the evening of June 3, 2024, at 6:51 PM, the Kanlaon Volcano experienced an explosive eruption at its summit crater and still exploded continually. As of June 7, 2024, the Department of Agriculture's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) reminds that Kanlaon Volcano remains at Alert Level 2.
